Port-A-Pups Transports primary object is to provide a quality service to rescues who are dedicated to helping save the lives of southern dogs. Having been involved with immediate rescues as well as fostering for local rescues, we are very aware of both the emotional as well as the financial strain that rescues face every day. We at Port-A-Pups would like to provide a transport service that would help to ease both the emotional and financial burden as much as possible. We are not interested in shipping “cargo”. Because of this we have limited the weekly number of dogs to between 40 and 50 dogs. This allows us to treat each of our passengers in a more personal way. Our passengers are not just a number on a crate, they have a name. Sometimes just hearing a kind voice that knows their name can put a scared dog at ease.
Cross contamination is also limited due to the lower volume of dogs. Having worked in the medical field we have the knowledge to reduce the occurrence of cross contamination as much as possible, especially with our younger passengers. Puppies are exercised in puppy pens with disposable liners to prevent contamination from the ground. Disposable gloves are used as an added precaution against cross contamination between separate groups of puppies.
Another quality that separates Port-A-Pups from other transport companies is the conditions that our passengers will be travelling in. Our trailer provides a light and bright atmosphere which we believe is crucial to the mental well-being of our passengers. We accomplish this with several slider windows and a light colored interior. We only use USDA approved crates that are light colored as well. Our trailer is fully self-contained with several amenities. These include heat/air, hot water and electric. Port-A-Pups passengers are fed twice a day and walked ever 6 hours. To help encourage the most relaxing atmosphere possible, soft music is played during transport. Rescuers are encouraged to bring something that the dog is familiar with to put in the crate as an added comfort.
We hope that our low rates and litter discounts will help ease the financial challenges that rescues struggle with every day. Whether you are disappointed with your current transport situation, need a back-up transporter or just want to reduce your rescue costs, we encourage you to give us a try. Our staff will always strive to make your experience, as well as our passengers, a positive one. We desire to only work only with rescues that adhere to the highest of health standards and whose dogs have been in foster a minimum of 2 weeks. Whether you choose to use Port-A-Pups Transport or not, we as animal lovers, would like to thank you for all you do. Rescues not only save the lives of animals, they also enrich the lives of the humans who have been blessed with the privilege of being loved by a rescued animal.
